SCAN's main purposes and role - SCAN is a vibrant and dynamic student led charity and has grown to be an essential link between the general population of Newcastle and the students that come here every year, and is at present the only charitable organization that works exclusively in this specific area in the whole of Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. We provide a wide variety of volunteering opportunities for the students of Newcastle, through both running our own community projects and acting as a referral service for over 200 community groups and charities across the North East. We are currently one of the principal Student Community Action (SCA) groups in the country with a mailbase of more than 1,150 volunteers, many taking part in more than one project that SCAN offers. It is our aim to dually benefit our local community and supply quality, skills building and enjoyable volunteering activities for the students of Newcastle.
