Thank Cod It's (TCI) Fryday manager and owner Craig Sykes is proud to be fronting the first shop of its kind in the North East and ambitiously aims to open a number of similar takeaway shops across the region. To celebrate the success of the takeaway, in Eddison Road, Washington, there's a buy-one-get-one-free special running on fish and chips. Craig who is originally from Berwick-upon Tweed has 10 years experience in this trade and is pleased to be passing on his expertise to his seven new employees.

On the menu there's traditional chip butty splashes, homemade, corned beef patties and cheese patties. Mixed platters of cod bites, scampi, chicken nuggets, crispy fish tails and chips are proving popular. Icelandic wild Cod is skinless and boneless and locally sourced British potatoes are used for chips which are cooked in gluten-free fat.

Batter used in cooking is freshly prepared by staff who follow a unique recipe.
